Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi and good evening. Cholesterol question. On 5/12/12 blood test showed total C is 302. HDL is 151, LDL is 133. On Pravastatin 20 mg for 30 day now. Believe it or not, last year my HDL was 164. Total C is not dropping, LDL dropped a touch in 30 days. HDL increased from 118 to 151. Any worries? 56 female, 127 lbs, 5 3 , caucasian.
I am a cardiologist and see together what reports you have. May 12th report shows elevated total cholesterol and another bad component of lipid that is LDL one should aim to bring it close to 100 mg%. HDL is protective good cholestrol and its high value (that is above 50 mg% in women) is considered normal. Exact value depends upon the technique and day to day or month to month, some variations are normal. I would not worry if my good cholesterol is high or very high. Your body w oeight for height seems perfect for your age. No cause for worry or even a concern. Your doctor is taking good care of you and of course you are contributing to it. I have a feeling that your high good cholesterol is contributing to high total cholesterol. Discuss it with your doctor whether drug needs to be supplemented with another preparation for example fenofibrate or increased per se.
Good Luck.
With Best Wishes.
