Hi Doctor, My son is having cough and cold for the last few weeks. Though it seems to reduce from time to time, he seems to have cough accumulated in his chest as everytime he coughs it makes a growling sound. All these while i have been giving him Honeytus syrup, from today i have started giving him Ambrolitis S syrup. Kindly advice. Thanks,
After going through the history I do feel your child could be having and upper respiratory tract infection. When there is common cold, secretions from the nose and the paranasal sinuses trickle down into the throat irritating the throat and inducing the cough.
Giving anti-tussives will not help in reducing the cough and cold, the prime cause has to be treated which is cold. My suggestions to you is to give plenty of warm water to drink, a mucolytic (such as ambroxol or bromhexine), saline nasal spray and a good antibiotic (such as a combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid or cefuroxime). If the symptoms persist please contact your child specialist.
