Colon Cancer, Edema In Legs, Swelling Around Stomach, Fluid In Lungs. On Morphine Drip. Prognosis?

My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer 4 months ago. He opted not to go the chemo route. Today he was admitted -- pain, edema in legs, swollen around the belly, fluid in the lungs, etc. to the hospital and they have begun a morphine drip. In your experience, how much time would the average person in this situation have? We do not want him to pass away in the hopsital.

Sorry to hear about your dad's condition. Stage 4 colon cancer without chemo has a poor prognosis. The description of his condition also does not look very encouraging. There is very little doctors can do at this stage except for alleviate his pain. In such a condition, survival is usually not for very long (few days - few weeks) but the exact prognosis can only be explained by the treating doctor who is assessing his condition every day.
