The first question is family history. Does anyone in your family have colon cancer?
The second is your age. If you are over 45 to 50?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, then proceed to have the exam

If you have a family history of Polyps in colon , you have to get it done , or if you are having altered bowel habits , passing stool with mucous , having sensation of incomplete evacuation then also you have to undergo colonoscopy.
