Cough, Blocking Up In Throat After Food, Ammonia Smell, Had To Push In Food. Why Did This Happen?

I was out to dinner with friends, had a lamb kabob entry, pink. we were drinking red wine with the meal, than
i realized food was not going down, got up to go to the men's room to cough the blockage up, in so doing, i
got some stuff coughed up and than there was this ammonia smell that came up. I eventually got food to
move down my throat, took about a half hour with relaxing as best i coud and walking around outside
the restaurant. I stuck my finger deep into my throat to get stuff up bit by bit eventually relief came, and I
could drink water. What was that ammonia smell that appeared at the beginning og the episode?
Thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello Friend
Welcome to H.C.M
With little information and as per the history you have given and the clinical findings you must have swallowed small bone piece that must have given feeling of stuffiness. the smell of amonia or some smell may be due to reflux which is commonly encountered after the wine/liquor ingestion.
in such condition i usually prescribe protone pump inhibitors and antaacid gel for a week or two.
Please don’t hesitate to consult and ask for any more query. i will be pleased to answer.
With best wishes for a speedy cure
