Coughing, Ear Blocked, Fever. Vomited Orange Substance. Should I Be Concerned?

I have been sick for a week now. I have been coughing terribly, left ear is closed completely, had fever of up to 101.5 for 2 days then it went away, my body hurts terribly from coughing so much. Today I woke up and had a terrible coughing spell to the point of throwing up. All I threw up was orange and yellow mucousy type snot that tasted like acid or something. It was awful. Should I be concerned? I am a 40 year old female.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding severe coughing, sore throat, blocked ear and sputum is mixed with blood.

Your symptoms are in favor of acute upper respiratory tract infection which is responsible for fever, pain in throat and producing blood mixed reddish sputum.
This infection is so severe that it had got involved ear also through eustachian tube.

For the management point of view you should do-

1- Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

2- X-Ray paranasal sinuses.

3- X-Ray chest.

4- Blood- CBC, ESR, blood sugar (F & PP).

By the help of above investigations and thorough clinical examination diagnosis may be established that may be managed accordingly.

Regards.
