Could Hydralazine Cause Dizziness And Pounding, Irregular Heartbeat?

been on Hydralazine 50mg X 2 per day about 4 weeks. feeling dizzy or lightheaded most of the day. When doing tasks in the yard or walking up a and down hills feeling more of a pounding or irregular heart beat Thought this may go away as I adjust to the medication. So far it has not. Will call my cardiologyst tomorrow to see what he says or ask to reduce the dosage from 50 to 25 mg X 2. Thoughts? (I had bypas surgery in 1996 and a stint in 2013. Last nuclear stree test in May show good blood floor and no issues. )

Hello,

Thanks for Writing to Health Care Magic and putting trust in us regarding your Health related query.
I am Dr. Saleha and I have read your message in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in this.

I am sorry to know about the problem with the medicine which you have been having recently. Hydralazine actually dilates the blood vessels so Blood pressure drops specially when one works or stands up from sitting or lying position. Heart does not get enough blood to pump to brain so it beats harder to compensate and one feels heart pounding.

If your nuclear scan showed that every thing was good then you will only need to get readjusted your dose, idea of making it 25mg X2 is not a bad one and if it doesn't compromise on your treatment results I think your cardiologist will consider it.

Then if adjusting the dose doesn't work , one always has the option to discuss with doctor about changing the medication, there are many other drugs which can more or less function the same way hydralazine does, they can be started if you are not tolerating hydralazine well.

I would suggest you not to panic , everything should be fine and you will hopefully get a helpful suggestion by your cardiologist after you get in contact with him tomorrow morning.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, I am happy to answer.

Wish you lasting health.

Regards.
