Could A Burnt Sugar Smell In My Nose And Throat, And Lips Feeling Burnt Be A Phantom Smell, Or Is There Another Explanation?

Hi, I woke up at 3 AM this morning with the smell of a horrible sugar (burnt) in my nose and throat, my lips also feel burny.. I think its coming from my sleep number bed.. My husband said he can smell it slightly ( I had the fan o for 4 hours before he went to smell it) It happened exactly a month ago... sleep number bed is saying it could be a phantom smell.. if thats the case would we both smell it
