Could A Painful, Swollen External Hemorrhoid With A Dark Purple-black Spot Be Just Pooled Blood?

I am not 100% sure, well, because I am not a doctor, but I believe I have an external hemorrhoid a little bigger then the size of a nickel. It is swollen and extremely painful. There appears to be a dark purple almost black place on it about the size of a pea. Is this just where the blood is pooled or is it something else entirely?
