Could A Severe Fungal Or Parasitic Infection Be Causing Hair Loss, Dead Skin Buildup, And Visible Lines On My Body?

I think i have a severe fungal or parasite infection. I have been pulling off a lot of long black hairs out my butt but mainly from my nose and head. My hair has fallen out a good bit . And i have alot of dead skin that builds up on my hands fingers feet ect. I literally can see the lines where they travel from my mouth to my nose then eyes and my ears to scalp and down my back to anus and then my toes Its hard to try and describe everything because its alot more than what i just wrote but ive been dealing with it for couplex years but this year its exploded to something that is alot more noticeable and difficult to deal with. Its embarrassing and my doctors dismissed it after 1 dose of antifungal meds didnt seem to work

Hello,

The symptoms are indicative of several causes, not only “severe parasite” or “fungal infection”. Apart from parasitic or fungal cause, it can be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, alopecia areata, etc. It can also be due to nutritional deficiencies (iron, B12, zinc, vitamin D, protein) can worsen skin and hair health. Include food rich in zinc, iron, B12, vitamin D, or take supplements. Get clinically examined by an infectious disease specialist (for parasites/fungi).

You may be referred to a dermatologist if required. Get tests and investigations like skin scrapings / fungal culture (from scalp, nose, skin lesions), hair microscopy, stool ova and parasite test along with CBC, iron studies, B12, liver/kidney function, thyroid tests done. You may be asked to get a biopsy of a skin lesion or affected scalp area done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
