Could A Sudden Blackout Be Due To A Mild Stroke?

What could be the cause of a sudden loss of brain function that happened for just a split second? I was walking and suddenly, without warning, I fell and experienced a momentary blackout. Could it be a mild stroke? Or simply too much alcohol? Diabetes? I was disoriented for just a split second and was normal afterward. I also have afib. What questions should I ask my primary care physician?

Hello,

Atrial fibrillation (AF) patients are at risk of embolic stroke. So for your symptoms, you should definitely rule out the transient ischemic attack (TIA). So consult a neurologist and get done MRI brain with MR angiography. If it is normal, then absence seizure is also a possibility. So get done EEG (electroencephalogram) also. So consult a neurologist and discuss all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
