Could Abdominal & Testicular Pain Suggest An STD?

my boyfriend just went in for left abdominal pain and left testicular pain, this is the second time this has happened..The first time he was told it was because of intestional bacteria..He is 28! he lives 2100 miles apart and we haven't had intercourse, could this be caused by an STD?! WORRIED :( PLEASE ADVISE
