Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Altered Dosage Of Levothyroxine Cause Swelling In Legs And Joints With Weightgain?
I had right side of thyroid taken out 3-17-2015 (left side was removed in 2007) because of nodule. I was taking 50 mcg Levothyroxine when I had surgery and surgeon would not adjust dosage. My primary care physician did lab work on 4-28-2015 and my TSH was 8.680 and doctor adjusted Levothyroxine to 75 mcg. I feel tired all the time, have swelling in my feet and legs, and joints are inflamed and swollen. I am also gaining weight. I have osteo arthritis. Does my dosage need to be adjusted higher? I started taking 75 mcg on 5-1-2015. Should I be patient and give it time and or do I need to go for more lab work. It is hard to get appointment with my endocrinologist who did needle biopsy, surgeon who removed thyroid, and primary care physician who is the doctor that is managing my thyroid mediciation. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, if the thyroid disease is the main concern, so the dose of it not being adjusted according to the symptoms but it need to be adjusted according to test report so no need to worry about the symptoms because this may not be due to thyroid disease, even you have this one because you already having medicine for this, hope this information helps, take care.
