Could Amputation Surgery Cause Swelling In First Amputed Leg?

my husband had a leg amputated on sep 17 2010 back on March 16th, 2011 he had the other leg amputated. The first leg has not completely healed and now it is really swollen, and a couple of stitches in the newly amputated leg is coming out and that leg really did not swell too much. My question is, could the last surgery have anything to do with the swelling in the first amputated leg?
