Could Antibiotics Cause Frequent Bowel Movements With Pain In Upper Ribs?
for the past couple of week I have been having several bowel movements a day. Not large movements with some pain in the upper right side under ribs .. before this started I had a root canal at dentist who gave me an antibiotic ....that bothered my stomach. gallbladder has been removed several years ago.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Antibiotics can cause bowel discomfort. Most likely you dentist have given you amoxicillin or cloxacillin or combination of both. This will cause gastric discomfort and diarrhea in some. Taking h2 blockers like ranitidine and probiotics along with it will be helpful in such case. Also take these antibiotics after food which will decrease the irritation. If discomfort is more then approach your local doctor to change the antibiotic. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
