Could Bleeding After Sex Post Delivery Indicate Menstrual Periods?

Hi, I gave birth to a normal baby boy 54 days ago without complications in a hospital. I bled for about 35 days afterward and then it stopped. Two night before I and my husband had our first intercourse. Since then I had patches of blood which increased in volume but dark brown in color. Am I having my first period?

Hello dear
Understand your concern
No bleeding after sex post delivery does not indicate the menstrual period. Following are the causes of bleeding after sex post delivery : injury to vaginal wall, pelvic/vaginal infection, precancerous condition of cervix, cervical polyp.
Brown colour bleeding means it is stale blood, sometime keep in the uterus and then it is coming means it is may be due to endometriosis or pelvic infection. If it will continue more than 2 days, need to examined by gynecologist and need investigations like: PAP smear, vaginal swab test, Pelvic USG.
It should be treated by tranexemic acid and infection require course of antibiotics.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
