Could Bloating Of Abdomen Along With Shortness Of Breath Be Related To Anxiety?

I am a 52 year old male with a long history of pretty intense physical fitness. P90X training and related workouts. Recently I have started running again and occasionally experience what feels like fullness in my upper abdomen when I run, and it causes shallow breathing and shortness of breath. Sometimes if I stop and then start again, it goes away. Is this possibly anxiety related?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Anxiety is a condition which might cause many different symptoms at different times. Some people have a feeling of uncertainty while others have racing thoughts in their mind. These are psychological symptoms. These also give rise to somatic or bodily symptoms which might include bloating of the abdomen, shortness of breath and loss of appetite.

Many people get the feeling of impending doom and this is released as inability to breathe properly or suffocation. In these situations it is advised to go out in the open air with your close friend or family and spend 30 minutes till the anxiety episode is over. Please do not worry.
