Could Blood Clots In Lungs Be Related To Enlarged Heart And High BP?
I was just told by my cardiologist that the right side of my heart is enlarged and the pressure is too high. How serious is this? I come from a family with terrible heart history. My father died at 40, my mother at 56, and my brother at 36 and our son has had two heart attacks, one at 26 and the other at 42. He has had stents in between the two heart attacks. I am 69. Not overweight at all, exercise at our wellness center we try for five times a week but at least 3. I have been getting short of breath on steps. We also walk a lot. I had quadruple bypass 13 years ago. I am just wondering how serious this is. I guess it kind of surprised me and I didn't ask any questions. They did a test this week to see if I have any blood clots in my lungs, but don't have results of that yet.
Hi,welcome to Healthcare magic. Thanks for posting your question on this forum. I understand your query and concern. Yes probably enlarged heart in the setting of past history of heart disease with a quadruple bypass heart surgery and intuit stent is likely to cause lung dysfunction in the form of elevated blood pressure .This can predispose to blood clot or thrombus formation in the lung. This will further worsen the heart enlargement.Such events are more likely to occur considering your age and family history.I advise you to have a baseline ECG and 2 dimensional echo on the follow up to have a recent quick review of your cardiac functional reserve.I strongly recommend the use of drugs like ace inhibitors like cardiopril, bosetans and calcium channel blockers like nifidepine. These drugs are known to reverse ventricular hypertrophy and reduce pressure in the lung.Maintain your blood pressure under 130/80 mm of hg.Consult an expert cardiologist for further expert management. Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
