Could Bulging Of Vein Behind The Eye Be Due To Cysticercosis?

I have cysticercosis and choroid cysts in the left ventricle of my brain. My neurologist and neurosurgeon have adopted a wait and see attitude. I have also developed bulges in a vein behind each eye. I have had a small stoke in the left side of my brain and I fear further strokes and effects on my vision. Is surgery ever done for any of these situations?

Hi,

It is possible that the bulging of the veins behind your eye could be due to ocular cysticercosis, given that you have already been diagnosed with cysticercosis and choroid cysts in the left ventricle of your brain. Ocular cysticercosis can cause a variety of eye symptoms, including vision loss, redness, pain, and swelling. The disease can affect almost all eye tissues, and multiple cysts may develop in the same eye. Ocular manifestations can be severe and cause blindness within 3-5 years.

Whether or not surgery is recommended for your situation would depend on various factors, including the location and severity of the cysticercosis and choroid cysts, as well as the extent of the vein bulging and any related complications. It is important to discuss your concerns with your neurologist and neurosurgeon, who can provide you with more information on the appropriate next steps and potential treatment options.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Bulging of a vein behind the eye is not typically associated with cysticercosis or choroid cysts in the brain. These conditions usually cause symptoms related to the central nervous system, such as seizures, headaches, or vision problems.

The bulging of a vein behind the eye may be related to other conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or a blood clot. It's important to speak with an ophthalmologist or other healthcare professional to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.

As for the cysticercosis and choroid cysts in your brain, your neurologist and neurosurgeon are likely taking a conservative approach to your treatment because surgery carries risks and may not always be necessary. They may be monitoring your condition with regular imaging tests and evaluating any changes in symptoms to determine if surgery is needed.

It's important to continue working closely with your healthcare team to manage your condition and prevent further complications such as strokes. If you have concerns about your treatment plan or symptoms, don't hesitate to ask your healthcare provider for further guidance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
