Could Cholesterol Be High If Am Vomiting And CPK Is High?

On Friday early a.m. I had to go to the ER because I started vomiting around 1am and could not stop. My body was cramping and I was shaking. I was dehydrated, but they kept asking my if I was on any cholesterol medication, Twice. The nurse and the Doctor. They had taken blood samples and said something about my CPK being high. I m not on cholesterol medication. What is that test for and why would it be high?

Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
I see your description of your problem, you have vomiting and you go to ER after that you make blood test and you heard about high value of CPK. You didn’t know which type of CPK (creatine phosphokinase or creatine kinase) is? CPK is an enzyme found at skeletal muscles, heart and brain and from this location there is CK-MM in skeletal muscle CK-MB in heart muscle and CK-BB in brain. The increase level of them happen when there is a damage of the tissue.
You should which is increased of this, if there is a higher value of CK-MM this is form the damage of the skeletal muscle that cause the cramps and shaking from the dehydration caused from the vomiting and there is a damage that can go with your rehydration.
If there is an increase of CK-MB it is the sign that you have a heart attack from atherosclerosis of your coronary artery, this may happen from the higher level of your blood lipids and in this case vomiting is the symptom of heart attack .If so you should have regularly appointments with your cardiologist and you should have also a lipid profile blood test, you should take Statin drugs and Aspirin to prevent that this happen again and a healthy diet plus a normal weight for your height.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida JANKO
