Could Complete Abstinence For A Few Years Subside The Damage From Drug Abuse?

I have been in a+e on 3 occasions for taking too much ecstasy (ive always taken large doses and can feel my heart going 90 for days after), I have always felt this would have a lasting effect on my heart. However my resting heart rate is around 58, I have stopped smoking, drinking and taking drugs and my BMI is 22, I am 24 years of age, would it possible that any damage I may have done will subside after a few years of complete abstinence?

Hi,

It is possible for the body to recover completely after years of complete abstinence. However, one cannot say whether it will be so in your case as well or not. It would depend on the extent of damage that has already occurred, duration and severity of drug abuse, genetic factors, dietary factors etc. Please do not worry about this. Rather focus on remaining abstinent and living a healthy life.

Best wishes.
