Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went in to get a wisdom tooth pulled and there was a dark shadow behind it making a space between my tooth and jaw. This tooth is the bottom right wisdom. Is it cancer? They said they needed a biopsy. They said the shadow has grown since 2012 (been 3 years). But it was over looked. Could it be a simple infection?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms a shadow behind wisdom tooth is not necessarily cancer and it can also be a DENTIGEROUS CYST which is commonly seen in case of impacted wisdom tooth and it surrounds the neck of the wisdom tooth and surrounds downwards..
A biopsy is being done to confirm the diagnosis so that the treatment can be panned as in case of cyst also surgical removal is done by enucleation procedure..
So do not panic and wait for the biopsy report and get treated accordingly.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
