Could Delayed Periods Be Due To Stress?

Hi, can flying, over an 8hour flight, with a time zone change of 5hours behind affect my ovulation? According to various trackers, I ovulated just after my flight to New York. I was terribly ill the whole trip and the pollution levels over there was sky high in comparison to the country side I live in, in Britain. I was extremely stressed the whole time I was there. My period is 4 days late now and I m terribly worried, I ve never properly tracked a period before so I m not sure if this is normal for me to be so late.

Hello,

Yes, stress and time zone change can cause delayed periods. You are experiencing cycle-related symptoms of jet lag. Time zone change can interfere with hormones resulting in cycle that is longer than usual (when your period comes late) or shorter than usual (when your period comes early). It can also cause missed period or heavier or lighter than normal periods as it takes time for your hormones to get back into balance when jumping time zones.

Stay relaxed you will be normal within a cycle or two. In case the cycle is consistently irregular than you should get clinically examined by a healthcare professional. You may also get affected by symptoms of fatigue, digestive issues, loss of concentration or trouble sleeping, etc. Just relax & avoid any kind of anxiety. Take rest and also take adequate amount of fluids and water to stay well hydrated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
