Could Excess Strain On Calf Muscle Cause Blotchy Skin On Lower Leg?

Yes I have blotchy skin on my lower left leg mostly on the front but on the calve also. I ve had this for some years and does itch occasionally. I did have a trapped sciatic nerve some years ago on the right side and did tend to put all my weight on the left leg. The calve muscle on the left leg is somewhat larger than the right possibly because of this excess strain? The blotchy leg has really started from that time.also on the same leg I some varicose veins. Could all this be related? The right leg has no such problems.

Hello,

Blotchy skin on the lower legs is commonly caused by developing varicose veins or venous ulcer. Since you have sciatica (R) side and have been putting your weight on the left it can be related. You also have a history of having varicose veins. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get an ultrasound and venogram done to check the blood flow or signs of blockage. In case a venous ulcer is detected arterial pulse examination and measurement of ankle-brachial index are recommended.

Color duplex ultrasonography helps to assess the venous reflux and obstruction. If obese, reduce weight. Switch to healthy lifestyle, take home made food, do regular walking and exercises. Do not stand at the same place for a long time and take adequate sleep. Get your sciatica also treated. In the meantime you can apply ointment Soframycin or Thrombophob on the affected area for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
