Could Excessive Coughing Cause A Painful Bump In My Belly Button?

Hi, so I got a cough so I’ve recently been coughing a lot. Yesterday I noticed that my belly button hurt a bit so I checked it and there’s a little bump in it. Now it hurts a lot in the area around my belly button and hurts when I cough, what could it be?

Hello,

This could be suggestive of umbilical hernia. Do not do any heavy lifting, straining, or forceful coughing. Support the area with gentle pressure when coughing. Get clinically examined in standing and supine position and get evaluated by a general surgeon. It is important to detect or rule out strangulated hernia as it is an emergency. If needed your treating surgeon will order for an abdominal ultrasound or CT to check for complications. Surgery may be recommended.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
