Could Fatigue And Trouble Losing Weight Be Due To Thyroid?
I am a 28 year old female with no children and no major medical history. A friend of mine has recently been diagnosed with hypothyroid issues and while researching this on her behalf I noticed that I may be suffering from some of the same symptoms such as fatigue, trouble losing weight and some depression. Also during my research I came across some studies on beau's lines. I get these ridges in my thumb nails that seem to grow out and then come back that look very similar to beau's lines. Is there a connection or am I over reacting?
Hello dear, The symptoms you reported are suggestive of hypothyroidism and it can easily confirmed by checking the thyroid hormones in blood (TSH,FT4and FT3 level). About the beau's line there are not related to under active thyroid. They may be caused by an infection or problem in the nail fold, where the nail begins to form, or may be caused by an injury to that area. Some other reasons for these lines include trauma, coronary occlusion, hypocalcaemia, and skin disease. You may discuss with your treating physician about the above causes.
