Could Fluttering Sensation In Chest And Pain Behind Knee Be Related To Simvastatin?

I started on Simvastatin 3 weeks ago and have been having really strong fluttery feelings in my chest which is now causing me to be anxious and therefore increasing these flutters. I also have developed a pain behind my left knee which I think is a hamstring injury, although I don t recall how I could have caused it. Could these symptoms be related to taking Simvastatin?

Hi,

No, Simvastatin is not the cause of the strange sensations which you are describing. The chest symptoms could be anxiety, atrial fibrillation of extra systolic beats. I recommend contacting your doctor in order to get an ECG taken just in case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
