Could Foul Odor From Vagina Be A Sign Of STD?

This is a little awkward for me, but I want to know, so I'm going to ask. I'm 21 years old, and this problem just started to occur. I'll have my monthly cycle, then, afterward, there is a terrible odor. This never used to happen to me, it just recently started. I'd say about 5 or 6 months ago. I haven't tried to use any types of medication for it, i'm a little nervous about using unfamiliar things on any part of my body. I've also never been to a gynocologist. Could I possibly have an STD, or is this just my body reacting differently?
