Could Having My Tubes Removed Put Me Into Menopause?
My OB/GYN wants me to have both my tubes removed because my maternal grandmother had breast cancer and I can not afford the BRACA test, which is not covered by my insurance. Will this put me into early menopause? I m only 27 with 2 little boys. I m not ready for menopause.
Hello,Welcome to the HCM Brief ....Removing only tubes does not prevent from Breast cancer. Detailed answer...Since It is not necessary that if you cant afford BRASCA test then you need to remove both tubes..Yes cancer can run in families but it is just a risk and not confirmation that if your grandmom has got cancer that means you are sure to be suffering from this.Even BRASCA test is just to test the risk factor. The most easiest way to keep eye for lump is self breast examination ,even mammogram has its own risk factors to cancer. And since theses are the ovaries which regulate hormones for menses and pregnancy not the tubes. So even after tubes removed ,your ovaries will continue to regulate hormones ,so the menses. My opinion would be get a visit to an oncologist first and discuss about the risk factors and the most easiest and affordable way to keep check on breast lump, which can be continued with out risk factors.
