Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Intake Of Xarelto For DVT Cause Receding And Sore Gums?
When diagnosed with a dvt, I was prescribed xarelto for 17 months and would have to stop for a few days around the time of my period due to concerns with my iron levels at 4 and heavy mensuration. Since being free of xarelto since March, I have had nothing but problems with my gums. I went to my dentist to get help because my gums have now started to recede. They had no answers but cleaned my teeth... The second time in an 8 month period! Is this a side effect of xarelto? How can I prevent it from getting worse? I brush twice a day. I try to floss twice a day then I use Listerine. They re still sore!
As per my clinical experience, the Xarelto contains Rivaroxaban used for various clotting disorders. The infrequent intake as lapses during menses period (from heavy flow as side effect of the drug) also pause issues with its efficacy over a period of times. However, receding gum is not a known or documented side effect of the medicine, though it can be possible as unrecorded effect as well. In my opinion, you definitely require molecule change or dosage alteration with your treating physician of vascular surgeon in this regard.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
