Could It Possibly Be The Scented Air Freshener Reason For Chronic Cough, Dry Throat And Swelling?

Hello Dr. Mercola. I work in an office of about 15 people. Sometimes someone will have a 'scented air freshener'; the type you twist up and the aroma flow out. Often the smell bothers my throat; leaving it feeling dry and a little swelled up. The person who's 'cube' it is in; has had a chronic cough she can't seem to shake. Could it possibly be the scented air freshener?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Your problem seems to be due to the scented air freshener. It could be an allergic reaction to the air freshener.
Just avoid being in the room, while the air freshener is being sprayed in the room. You can take some mild anti histamines like cetrizine 10 mg once every night for few days. If its responding its well and good. Otherwise you need to consullt the doctor for help.
Take care.
