Hello,

Yes, your symptoms are suggestive of infection. Sometimes, use of latex (condoms) due to lubricants, or body fluids does cause irritation or allergic reactions. Another cause of such a symptom can be a fungal infection (candidiasis), in which itching and sensitivity are common. Bacterial infection / Balanitis commonly occurs in uncircumcised men.

You need not panic. You are advised to take care of your hygiene; you can apply clotrimazole cream for relief. If it is a fungal infection, it will go away with a course of oral antibiotics like Fluconazole. A fungal infection develops due to sweating and warmth in the genital area. Whenever you sweat, change your clothes from inside out.

However, you are advised to get clinically examined by a urologist and get an STI test to rule out sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, or trichomoniasis. If there is a positive report for STI, you will be treated with antivirals and antibiotics accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
