Could Itching And Hives All Over The Body Be Related To Tinea Versicolor?

For the past few weeks my skin out of nowhere starts itching terribly with no signs of irritation until i scratch and then hives break out all over the area. What could this be? It is always on my arms right where the elbows bend or on my stomach. I also have tinea versacolor is that in any way related? I treat myself regularly with selenium sulfide lotion to keep the tinea at bay.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Tinea versicolor can cause itching. But your symptoms may be related to allergic reaction to food or drug or external allergen like dust or pollen. I would suggest you to take antihistamines along with anti fungals in case the fungal lesions still exist. In case of severe form of allergic reaction including throat swelling, breathing difficulty, visit the ER immediately,

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
