Could Itching And Swelling In Hands Be Related To Thyroid Disorder?

I am a 62 year old female in good health. My only medical issue is I have low thyroid and take Leothyroid (testing every year) Lately I have been experiencing itching of my hands. I thought it may be a Gluten issue so I stopped eating any gluten for the past 10 days. I still have very itchy and a bit swollen hands. Can it be related to my thyroid?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that this problem might be due to hypothyroid as in hypothyroid there is dry rough skin producing some swelling and itching sensation.
Apply Vaseline on the part and keep part smooth and oily.
Avoid using soap or washing powder or detergent with hands.
Take anithistamine like Cetrizine or Benadryl for itching.
Ok and take care.
