Could Mild Deviation In Left Axis Of Heart Be A Matter Of Concern?
Hello, I just did a pre-employment physical for a local sheriffs office. Everything went fine with blood pressure and the whole check up. My Dr. just called me and said that the EKG showed a mild left axis deviation. I am a 27 year old active male in the military. Should I be worried by these findings? I am scheduled to meet with a cardiologist in the next few days.
Mild left axis deviation of the EKG do suggest possible enlargement of left ventricle. As you are physically fit and not having any ill effects over the body, there does not sound a major cause of concern. As you are in Military with highly active schedule of your work out, it is the matter of physiologic response of the heart to strenuous work out in form of left ventricular hypertrophy as a compensatory mechanics. However, after thorough clinical examination, your cardiologist will guide you further precisely in more details.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
