Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Myocardial Infraction Be An Immediate Matter Of Concern?
My husband saw his PCP today due to bilateral edema lower legs offa d on for a few months. Also occasional short ess of breath. His egg showed an old myocardial infarction. He is scheduled for an echocardiogram Monday. How can this not be an emergent situation?
Hi! I really appreciate your concern for your husband. Some data is not mentioned in your statement like his age, blood pressure, pulse, etc. Any how, I am of the opinion that he had a silent myocardial infarction in the past that is reflected in the old changes in the ECG. The main problem now he is having is bilateral ankle edema and occasional shortness of breath which are suggestive of congestive heart failure. Let the doctor follow him up after the echocardiogram and based on the findings in echo he will prescribe the medicines for shortness of breath and edema and also if any underlying cause like hypertension, etc can be managed. Regards!
