Could On And Off Extreme Pain In Back And Leg Indicate Pinched Nerve?

My husband suffers intermittent pain when sitting in one position for a long time(driving long distances), in his back and leg (right side). When you look at him from the back , his shoulder droops to one side making him look like he is on a tilt. The pain can be excruciating but after massaging and stretching his leg , the pain dissapates. Could this be a pinched nerve? His wife, Sharon.
