Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Pain Be Caused By The Metal Rod Fixed In The Right Fibula?
Ive had a metal rod in my right fiba for 22 yrs now. The last month or so my Achilles Heel has been hurting and gradually getting worse to the point I can no longer stand or walk for long periods of time. As of yesterday the pain started radiating up my heel, my knee keeps popping in and out of place, and shooting pain up and down my leg. Is it possibly the rod has become too old? What are the signs of it needing to be replaced. I went to the ER and they told me its Arthritis and have referred me to another doctor. But I really dont think its Arthritis.
It could be an inflammatory pain probably. It is better to keep the implant as of now, because it is already there for long time and removal will be difficult. As of now you can use analgesics/anti inflammatory combination like Aceclofenac / Seratiopeptdase for symptomatic relief.
Take absolute bed rest for three to four days. If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedic and get evaluated. If there is infection or collection at the implant site it has to be removed. Based on your symptoms, arthritis is unlikely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you all the best.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
