Could Persistent Cough And Running Nose Be Related To Abscess In Tooth?

I have an abscess tooth. The area around the tooth is sore and there is a patch of white pus. The dentist said I need root canal. At the same time I have been coughing non stop, have a nose that constantly runs and no appetite. Are the two related?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a dental abscess is an outcome of bacterial infection which causes inflammation of nerves and blood vessels located in the centre of tooth in a small chamber known as pulp chamber.

When the infection reaches the pulp it progress below the root tips causing pus formation and pain..

Whereas the runny nose, coughing are due to viral infection..

So for both the conditions you need to take different treatment as for dental abscess you need to take ANTIBIOTICS, PAINKILLERS and undergo ROOT CANAL TREATMENT.

While for runny nose, coughing you need to take symptomatic treatment like cough syrups, pseudo ephadrine containing medicines to relieve congestion as anti viral medicines does not play a considerable role in curing the viral infection..

I would suggest you to consult a general physician for the problem of cough and cold so that he can evaluate the cause and do the appropriate treatment..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
