Could Persistent Hot Flashes Indicate Onset Of Menopause?
hello, i am a 46 year old female. stopped taking the birth control pill about 18 months ago because of blood clots. i have been experiencing what i think are heat flashes. they last about 15 seconds or so constantly throught the day and night. my entire body is sweated within seconds. do you think it could be menopause?
Hello, Thank you for asking at HCM. I carefully read your question and understand your concern. Are you still having regular menstrual periods? We say a woman is in menopause if she is over 45 years old and has a period of at least 12 months without periods. What might be happening in your case is that you might be transitioning into menopause. This might be also the cause of the hot flashes you are having. A simple way to diagnose it is a blood tests called FSH, if it is high it means you are going into menopause and if you have at least 12 month without periods than you are in menopause. Speak with your provider and try to have this test. if this is normal it is unlikely the symptoms are from transition into menopause and than your provider might need to have some other tests to diagnose the cause of your symptoms. Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
