Could Physical Therapy Cause Pain, Tingling And Numbness Behind Knee And Foot?

I have been doing at home physical therapy (based upon previous Physical Therapist s instructions) for pain beneath my right kneecap and lower back hip for about 3 months, but am now experiencing moderate pain, tingling, and minor numbness (somewhat like temporarily cutoff circulation) behind my right knee as well as in my right foot for approximately 1 week. Could this be a circulation or nerve-related problem? Could the pt be causing the pain, tingling, and minor numbness? Should I discontinue the pt ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain beneath the kneecaps can be related to bursitis. I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. I also suggest to continue physical therapy to help relieve the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
