Could Recurrent Huge Lumps At Back Of Head Be Stress Bumps?

I am a 54 year old female. I sometimes get lumps on the back of my head the size of a golf ball they stay for several hours then disappear. On one of my visit to my doctor I told the nurse practitioner about them and she said they are stress bumps. Is there such a thing?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that these may be inflammatory bumps or related to a head trauma.

The size is really concerning.

Are they painful to touch? Do you experience other symptoms like headache, dizziness, fevers, etc.?

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination and some blood lab tests :

- complete blood count
- PCR, sedimentation rate
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes
- coagulation tests
- uric acid levels, etc.

Further tests may be needed if an infection is suspected.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
