Could Recurring Itchy Rashes Post Treatment For Folliculitis Be Wrong Diagnosis?

I was diagnosed last week with folliculitis and was prescribed Cephalexin by a doctor. The rash hasn t gone away, but just seems to be stubborn. It only itches occasionally and if I shower it looks redder. Could this be something else? Could I have been misdiagnosed? s

Hi,

It is possible that the diagnosis of folliculitis was incorrect or incomplete. While folliculitis is a common skin condition caused by inflammation of hair follicles, it is not the only possible cause of itchy rashes on the skin. Other potential causes include contact dermatitis (an allergic reaction to a substance in contact with the skin), atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema), fungal infections, and many others.

If the rash has not improved with treatment, it is important to follow up with the doctor who made the initial diagnosis. They may recommend further testing or evaluation to determine the underlying cause of the rash and prescribe appropriate treatment. In some cases, a dermatologist may need to be consulted for further evaluation and management of the rash. It is also important to avoid scratching or irritating the rash as this can lead to further complications and delay healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
