Could Recurring Sharp Pain Under The Rib Cage Indicate GERD?

I am a female 5 foot 3 36 years old 126 pounds. For years I have been having this sharp pain under my left chest right on my rib bone is where the pain is most. It comes on all of a sudden more painful when breathing in or bending over. It comes and goes but today it has been horrible. I have seen many doctors and all they say is it might be gerd. I have been taking medicine but it doesn't seem to work what could this condition be I'm experiencing?

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have sharp chest pain specially on breathing or bending . Although there can be many reasons for chest pain like haert problems , gastrointestinal problem ,muscles and lungs related problems . But you mention that you have been to many doctor and they said it to be gastro related problem so It seems to me that is problem must be related to gastrointestinal system like GERD ( acid reflux) . In acid reflux disease only medicines are not going to work but life style changes are also important . I would suggest you to avoid heavy and spicy food specially at night , eat at least one hour before going to bed and take a light walk for 15 minutes after every meal .If condition doesn't get better then consult gastroenterologist for proper diagnosis and treatment . In severe cases surgery can also be the treatment option.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
