Could Red Rash And Pigmentation Around The Lips Indicate Dermatitis?

HI I have a red (kind of spotty) rash along my bottom lip line. I have been using CORTIC-DS 1% Cream proscribed by my doctor for about 2 weeks. I have had this issue for a couple of months now. It appears to be going away from the cream but then when I eat it fleers up again and is bright red, It s not certain food that I eat its any meal. Do you think this is dermatitis? I am also taking B12 tablets. I also have a bit of pigmentation along the bottom lip line and on my top lip (on the actual lip) I have pigmentation but this only seems to go a little bit red after I eat. Please help!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms you are suffering from PERIORAL DERMATITIS whic is characterized by formation of rashes or small bumps that contains pus around the lips..

It can occur due to a number of causes like steroid based creams, cosmetic creams containing Petrolatum ,paraffin base and isopropyl myristate..
Nasal steroid spray and inhalars, fluoride based toothpaste, hormonal changes and in female due to Oral contraceptives..
It is commonly seen in females during the period of 20 to 45 years of age..

You should immediately stop using all kinds of creams and cosmetics as well as steroid ointment..

Although it can appear to increase initially but will slowly start resolving..
Wash your face with Luke warm water..
Apply topical erythromycin based ointment..
Apply azelaic acid creams..
In case if it is severe Oral intake of Doxycycline is recommended..
All this has to be done under supervision of a trained Dermatologist..

Hope this information helps..
