Could Redness On The Head Of Penis Be Due To Genital Herpes?

I received a genital herpes test 6 weeks after exposure and I have minimal symptoms. I received the igg and igm, and got the specific tests for hsv1 and hsv2. Multiple doctors have looked at me and told me they don t believe I have the disease. The tests came back negative. Should I trust the doctors and the test and just move on with my life, and have piece of mind? How reliable is that test after 6 weeks for an otherwise healthy college athlete? I m still worried about it but people are telling me I m clean. The girl told me that she has a pretty innocent past but don t know if I can trust her. The only thing I have is a pinkish shade on the head of my penis, but I also am wearing compression shorts when I workout and sweat a lot. What should I do? Just move on?

Hi,

Noted your history of redness over the glans of penis, wearing compression shorts and sweat a lot, Herpes is negative, partner and yourself has no doubtful past.
As per the history that you have provided this looks to be balanoposthitis.
Extra sweating and compression causes the bacterial overgrowth and thus this condition.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Stop using the tight shorts and allow ventilation during workout.
Wash the penis immediately after workout with plain water and also additionally 2-3 times in a day.
Most hte the issue will be solved.
Use condom during sex.
Get your partner Gynecologist's checkup to be sure about.
Apply Liquid Povidone Iodine locally at least once a day.
Rarely may need a prescription of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
