Could Seizures And Disorientation Be Caused Due To Smoking Hookah?

Dr. I have epilesy basically those zone outs . I m under a doc s care who increased my Lamitrogine. I NEVER had Grand Mols except back in 07 after I was in a car accident. The meds been controlling my zone outs , but last Mon. my nephew & I went 2 a Hookah lounge. I wanted 2 try 2 smoke Hookah. I don t smoke & some people had told me that you don t have 2 b a smoker 2 do Hookah. Now my nephew told me that some people throw up after smoking Hookah. He says that I didn t smoke that much, but AFTER I came home my nose felt hot/inflamed & I can still taste the nicotine (I didn t like smoking nicotine) as I was taking Lamitrogine. I went to bed really exhausted & then a couple of hrs. I felt the heaves. Like my nephew said I felt that I was gonna throw up. Well, I started 2 throw up, but instead of the stuff coming directly out (my nose was stuff b/c I was trying 2 get over a cold) it took longer 4 the stuff 2 come up. I was breathing & making noise (as my mom said). The stuff came out of my nose & mouth gradually. My parents came in & saw this saying that I was having a seizure. Unlike the 1st seizure n 07 I WASN T Disoriented. I saw & knew what was going on-my parents n the room, heard what the parameds were saying. So, my ques. is (I think-) Do u think that smoking this Hookah had caused my seizure. 2 me, if felt like a package deal -a combo of throwing up & the effects of epilepsy? (Like I said the Only time I had a 1st time Grand Mol was n 07 which I WAS DISORIENTED, but those who witnessed it said that I was foaming a little where Mon. i was Foaming A LOT & Mucus coming out.) Please let me know I hope this Grand Mol was trigged by my 1st time smoking Hookah.

Hi,

Yes, it can trigger factor seen in patients [in few reports], so you have to completely stop any nicotine product like hookah [even don't go near them]. Continue your Lamotrigine as prescribed by your physician. They might have asked you some lab work like [EEG, prolactin levels, or sometimes video-EEG] these can be ordered to find prognosis.

Few generalized modalities can help you like:
a] Take precaution when you are near water bodies, fire, driving]
b] To calm and stress free[ it will reduce your chance of getting seizure] join online art of living breath meditation workshop. In my patient I have seen combining this with above eliminate seizures]
c] Ketogenic diet is also option, if your treating physician finds it good in your case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
