Could Severe Abdominal Pain Be Due To The Tumor In Liver?
I am a 34 year old woman, I have been battling a medical issues for 8 years now. 7 exploratory surgeries and who knows how many hospital visits and admissions later, i am still sick, i have seen over 30 doctors and either no one can tell me what exactly is wrong or they wont touch me because i am too high risk . After a recent hospitalization May 8, 2014 I was told they found a mass/tumor in my liver and that i need surgery but again no one is willing to do it. My condition is undiagnosed, symptoms are: abdominal and lower back pain (i feel like im in labor) inflammation of the abdomen (my stomach swells up from normal to looking like i am 7/8 months of pregnant) within 15 to 20 minutes. my pain comes and goes in waves last days. I have been told to go to the Mayo clinic, but i now have no insurance.
Hello, 1) Diagnosis of tumor in liver + swollen stomach suggest possibility of primary tumor in liver or spread of tumor to liver from somewhere else with collection of fluid in stomach due to decreased production of protein from decreased liver function. 2) Yes, surgery in such cases would be high risk from point of decreased liver function. It also increase chances of bleeding during surgery, decrease healing, wound infection. 3) Surgery has very limited role in case of spread of tumor to liver from somewhere else. 4) It is advisable to consult medical oncologist to discuss further treatment (chemotherapy or surgery). If tumor has reached advanced stage then also surgery has very limited role and approach for treatment will be for relief of symptoms only rather than removal of tumor
