Could Severe Pain In Tail Bone Be Due To Cysts?

I have been having severe tailbone pain. I have had numberous x-rays and a bone scan. I was examined by a surgeon. He said he thinks it is a cyst but their is not visual signs of one. He gave me antibotics to try and get rid of it. Are cysts always noticable? Shouldn't be red or inflamed?
