Could Sharp Pain In The Chest Be Pleuritis?

So I have this occasional pain on the right side of my chest when I breath. This pain began to occur just a day after I got a cold. So far I ve felt this sharp pain within it for about 2 days now. It feels as if my lung is being poked with a needle. My mom is really scared about it and urges me to go to the doctor just to make sure everything is okay however I do not want to seek medical attention because I believe she may be overreacting. I do not have a cough at the moment but I do have a stuffy nose, fever, and a bit of fatigue. I ve been taking over-the-counter medication to reduce the fever (Tylenol). I was wondering if it could possibly be Pleuritis and if it is should I be concerned?

Hi,

That pain is due to pleural inflammation definitely. X-ray chest should be done and antibiotics, other over-the-counter medicine should be taken for fever, pain, and runny nose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
